Black psyllium is a seed from a plant called Indian plantain. Its name comes from the Greek "psyllia" which means "flea". Used since antiquity as a natural laxative, black psyllium was also recommended for its benefits on the intestine. Psyllium comes in several varieties depending on the region where it is grown. Blonde psyllium is generally from India or Pakistan while brown or black psyllium grows in the Mediterranean basin.
